I’m going to share something that will almost certainly stir a mix of emotions in parts of the prophetic community. But I’m not writing from frustration or condemnation—I’m writing from a genuine desire to see us go higher. I grew up in ministry as a PK. I understand the need for sound doctrine, and I’m empathetic toward the prophetic emphasis on being accurate and Spirit-led. But let’s be honest: If Jesus walked into most prophetic circles today—or churches in general—we probably wouldn’t recognize Him. Why? Because He wouldn’t be using the language we’ve grown so used to. He wouldn’t be throwing around phrases like “God told me…” or quoting Scripture every other sentence to validate His authority. In fact, if you read the red letters in the Gospels, over 90% of what Jesus said wasn’t a quote from Scripture. He didn’t rely on “It is written” as a crutch to prove the Spirit was on Him. He didn’t need to convince anyone He heard from God—His union with the Father gave His words their weight. And the disciples? Same story. Paul didn’t start every letter with “God told me to tell you…” He said things like, “I believe I have the Spirit of God,” or “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us.” That’s not insecurity. That’s humility. It’s the language of those who know they’re walking with God and don’t need to manufacture weight behind their words. But compare that to what we sometimes see today in the prophetic: • We say “God told me…” not always out of confidence, but sometimes because we’re afraid someone might question us. • Our long revelations can sound more like attempts to impress than invitations to listen. • We sometimes quote verses not as confirmation, but as camouflage—making it harder for people to challenge us. • We may use dramatic language to bypass accountability, but what we leave people with is often confusion, not clarity. Have we trained people to accept our dreams, visions, and words because we attach “thus saith the Lord” or “God said…” to them… instead of letting the fruit speak for itself? Here’s the truth: when the Holy Spirit is genuinely speaking through you, you don’t need to prop it up. He confirms His word. The weight of His presence speaks louder than any phrase we could manufacture. So what if we stopped trying to convince people that our word is from God… and just focused on whether or not what we say is clear, life-giving, and truly helpful? But what if they don’t honor me as a prophetic voice? Then maybe you don’t need that as much as you need to simply share what You feel God may have given you for their sake. We’ve got to remember, WE are accountable for every word we speak in His name and attribute to Him. Let’s speak with humility, sincerity, and with true faith… or hold our tongues until we can. Because at the end of the day, a real word from the Lord doesn’t need to be introduced. It just needs to be released. It’s time to grow. It’s time to mature. ⸻ Stop obsessing over whether people believe your word is from God. Start focusing on whether you have been prompted and if it actually strengthens, encourages, or comforts them. (1 Corinthians 14:3) This is the spirit of prophecy. If the Spirit is in it, they’ll know. And if they don’t? Perhaps it wasn’t for them in the first place.
