A COUPLE OF TAKEAWAYS FROM THE TEXAS FLOODS, AS WELL AS THE OTHER DISASTERS IN WESTERN NC, CALIFORNIA, HAWAII... AND THOSE THAT WILL LIKELY COME TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU. The main question about THE TEXAS FLOODS is why there was no warning, or enough of a warning. The National Weather Service did put out warnings about these floods being likely in every way they could. However, there were not many citizens or campers who had a way to get these warnings. Also, these communities did not have sirens, which every community in these times should have. They did not have something else that all communities should have--Christian Watchmen. Prophets were called "watchmen" in biblical times because they were appointed to see any threat to their community in enough time to warn the people to be ready for it. There are plenty of examples of this in the Old and New Testaments. Why don't we have these today? Agabus is an example in the Book of Acts of a watchman who received revelation that a famine was coming over the whole world, and he warned the people to prepare for it. Years ago we were told that in these times of some of the greatest challenges the world has ever had, we needed these in every congregation, and every community. The type of disasters that are now happening with increasing frequency don't have to be surprises. We can know they're coming and be prepared for them so that they don't have to be so destructive, especially with the loss of life.
