“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit.” –Will Durant A habit is the result of a renewed mind. A renewed mind is the result of teaching + training with discipline and repetition. For example, we may know we need more patience, so we memorize the scriptures or biblical teachings on patience, and and apply them repeatedly when we feel impatient. At first we do not feel patient, but obey the teachings with discipline even though we don't feel like it. After enough repetition we can be put in the same circumstances that before made us impatient, and we start to feel patient because our mind has been renewed. The Holy Spirit is the Helper, not the Doer. He will help us renew our minds, but we must have the will and the discipline. As we see in Romans 12:2 below, this is something that we are commanded told to do: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."
