Micah 7:5 NKJV Do not trust in a friend; do not put your confidence in a companions guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom. Do you ever feel as if you're surrounded by people that you cannot trust? The wise conceal their words. Wisdom knows the frailty of human nature and sin. We are instructed in Luke 12:51-53 that a relationship with Jesus will bring division within your own household. These disagreements extend to the family of God as well, in varying degrees of divisiveness. James 4:1-6 shows us that this conflict among us stems from a war of two jealousies. We long for pleasure for what we do not have. The love of God is the polar opposite of our jealousy. The jealousy of the Holy Spirit spoken of in James 4:15 is referenced in Deuteronomy 4:24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. And in Luke 12:4 Jesus came to send a fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled. So we see the cause of the division among us and the reason for unanswered prayer as outlined in James 4:2-3 because we ask out of lust for pleasure and jealousy for what we do not have.
