THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION sounded like such a good idea when initiated. At the time the U.S. was at the top of the world in education, and this seemed sure to propel us ever higher. The opposite happened, as we quickly spiraled downward For decades now we've been at or near the bottom for developed nations. Why? First, it is unconstitutional. The Constitution is clear that all authority not specifically given to the federal government in the Constitution remained with the states and the people. Nowhere is education mentioned in the Constitution as an authority given to the federal government. Doesn't this mean there are many other departments in the federal government that are unconstitutional? Yes. And look at them--they're all train wrecks, consuming trillions in national treasure, and being counterproductive for what they were created to do. The states did education far better than the federal government, and will do so again when it takes it's authority back over education.
