Purifying the Motive to Prophesy… 🗝️ Our desire to prophesy must be pure in that if we seek to speak to others or teach others for God through this gift that we first must hear God and be taught by God for ourselves. Many seek power and prestige but not God’s power for God’s glory. God sees our motives and true humility allows Him to sift us. One of the major mistakes in the prophetic right now is that prophets have sought God for words for the time, the future, for people, and for outward direction pointed to the church but forsaken words for themselves. The first priority of any prophet is to maintain a sanctified relationship with the Lord. Words the prophet receives are purified by self examination in what the Lord is speaking to them personally through a deep nourished relationship with the Lord El Roi who sees them. Daily renewal comes through His personal breath of life - the Ruah of God speaking life to us. He is our Rock- our wellspring of life. To seek to prophesy is to long for the testimony of Jesus — to hear Him speak to us personally— this is a pure motivation that we long to hear Him speak to us personally. To seek to prophesy to give the next word that everybody sees or hears is not a pure motive. It’s using God like a dealer through His supply and bypassing the intimate relationship of a friend. He calls us friends— even so— friends of the bridegroom. Can you imagine a spouse who only seeks your provision but bypasses the relationship by only drawing from what you have and not desiring who you are? How repulsive and painful the betrayal is. 1 Corinthians 14:1 AMPC Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest]; and earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual endowments (gifts), especially that you may prophesy (interpret the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching).
