The reading for yesterday from "The Prophet's Devotional: 365 Daily Invitations to Hear, Discern, and Activate the Prophetic" by Jennifer LeClaire says, "I remember when God told me to make prayer my life's work. I didn't even understand what that meant." Reading that reminded me of the beginning of a many-year time of visiting the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC) in Kansas City and hearing in preaching that a preacher's job is full time. It's not just the luxury of prayer and worship. Because of hearing that in my context, I decided to spend 8 hours a day in the prayer room, which I tended to do during my visits and to pray publically there. Their practice was to pray from the apostolic prayers and so I found that I had to give significant time (within the day) to study a prayer in order to be able to pray from it (to use its theme and elements in my own prayer) and I did that for a while, though I did not continue to do so through the many years I visited. I'm just sharing this, not counting what I am sharing (meaning "I stopped public praying") as being very important . I was surprised to see the similarity of my experience with what the author mentioned.
