“About half of the U. S. Public (49%) says they have had a religious or mystical experience, defined as a “moment of sudden religious insight or awakening. The 2009 Pew Forum survey finds that religious and mystical experiences are more common today among those who are unaffiliated with any particular religion (30%) than they were in the 1960s among the public as a whole (22%).” –Pew Research Center (2009) Many of the studies on religion in America only measure Christians who are a part of an institutional church. Most Christians today are not a part of an institutional church, but they are part of the body of Christ. The unaffiliated are affiliated, but not with an institution. These are having more spiritual experiences because they are where Christ is--He suffered outside the camp and we are called in Hebrews to go to Him outside the camp. Jesus never became a part of "the camp" for a reason. We must understand this reason, and the difference between man's church and the church that the Lord is building.
