Silfab plans on using and storing over 22,000 lbs of anhydrous ammonia. The US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board just released a new report about the recent accidental release of 169 lbs of anhydrous ammonia at a factory in Sterling, Virginia, during which, "dozens of employees were injured by the release, some seriously". If there is ever a leak, accident, or faulty connection of any kind in any of Silfab's tanks or pipes holding their tens of thousands of pounds of pyrophoric silane or pyrophoric trimethylaluminum ("pyrophoric" means it instantly explodes on contact with air), the resulting explosion could easily rupture Silfab's massive tanks of 22,000 lbs of anhydrous ammonia, or worse, Silfab's tanks containing 15,850 gallons of extremely toxic hydrofluoric acid - this would result in thousands dead and an ecological disaster the likes of which the Carolinas have never seen in history.
