HOW DO WE GET CLOSER TO THE LORD TODAY? There are many ways we do this laid out for us in the Scriptures. Following the Lord, getting closer to Him, and doing His work, begins with repentance from sin. That's why John the Baptist had to come before Him to preach repentance. To repent is fundamentally to humble ourselves, so a devotion to humility will be set solidly into the foundation of our walk with God, and "growing up in all things into Him." Psalm 138:6 states, "He knows the proud from afar." So, our pride will keep us at a distance from God, but "He gives His grace to the humble," and what could be a greater treasure than His grace? Humility and repentance is a foundation of a true Christian life, and a foundation is something that gets used every day, and which the whole building stands upon. Be quick to be convicted of any wayward way, and turn to the Lord in humility seeking the grace to walk in His way. As Prov. 10:17 declares, "He is on the path of life who heeds instruction (correction), but he who ignores reproof goes astray." Being quick to receive correction is a primary characteristic of those who stay on the path of life, and are drawing ever closer to God.
