It has been said of him that the American Revolution would never have happened, and would not have succeeded, without him. This was because of the gripping motivational power of his speeches. With others it has been because of the power of their writing, and with a few, they have had both of these two great skills that have shaped history. These extraordinary gifts of communication that have moved nations, and sometimes civilizations, are rare because they are so expensive. Their cost is hard work, study, and the wisdom and discipline to listen instead of talking.
