"The pious fellowship permits no one to be a sinner. So everybody must conceal his sin from himself and from the fellowship. We dare not be sinners. Many Christians are unthinkably horrified when a real sinner is suddenly discovered among the righteous. So we remain alone with our sin, living in lies and hypocrisy" Dietrich Bonhoeffer Sin in the camp can be devastating to all, but the way the Lord has prescribed for us to get rid of it is to confess our sins to one another. Yet, this has become perhaps the rarest of Christian disciplines because of the harsh way that the self-righteous tend to treat sin that is reveals. Was not the Lord most gracious and forgiving to the sinners, but most intolerant of the self-righteous? Our self-righteousness can move us further from the Lord than the sin of others that we are so appalled by. We must obey the Lord's exhortation to take the log out of our own eye before trying to remove the spec out of another's. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, and graciously help those who have been caught in the deadly trap of sin. These are the Lord's own children, and He said that the way we treat them He will consider the way that we would treat Him.
