I believe Jesus allowed this instance to unfold this way and for it to be a testimony in His word to assure us it is OK, and sometimes necessary, to "pray" more than once. After all, if Jesus had to why shouldn't we? Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. Then He sent him away to his house, saying, “Neither go into the town, nor tell anyone in the town.” Mark 8:22-26 But note, He did no praying. He laid hands (and spit!, Haha!) and didn't even say a word. That's Mark 16:18 lay hands on the sick and they will recover. Jesus never said "Pray to heal the sick.", or "Pray to God to heal the sick.", He said heal the sick, and sometimes He modeled that by issuing a command, "Stretch forth your hand.", "Take up your bed and walk," and that is what He wants us to do too. John 14:12. I've done this before also, just laid hands, didn't say a word, believed it was the Spirit of God in me touching the person through me, while also believing it is always God's will to heal, and Jesus bore our sicknesses and carried our pains on His body 2000 years ago, just as He took our sins upon Himself in the atonement, and then saw Him heal the sick through me that way. It is already done, He already made the way. We have only to believe and act and He will glorify His great name through us, and set others free. The Atonement Surely he has borne our sickness and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:4,5 (WEB) When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.” Matthew 8:16,17 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24
